I am staying at a cabin in the mountains writing a book I started almost two years ago. I have thought of giving up many times on this project.
I am sleeping in an upper loft that has three large windows overlooking the back deck right into the heart of the mountains. It is a beautiful scene. In the morning the pink tint of the sky melds into the crests of the mountains. There is a blue foggy haze that appears to cover the mountains. Heaven is a little closer here. I feel a little closer to God.
This one morning I awoke to a noise. It was a dove on the outer ledge of one of the windows tapping at the glass. I couldn’t help but think that he was sent by God to say get up and start writing. Doves have always been a symbol of God’s peace in my mind. He was a reminder and encouragement to do the work God had laid on my heart. To write this book.
It was an unexpected blessing. God often has a way of sending small yet meaningful reminders that He is there. That He cares about the smallest details of my life. Encouraging me to push ahead.
I don’t know if you can really go looking or searching for these reminders. They often just come to you. You just have to pause and be aware of what God sends your way. Those things that remind you that He is there and that He cares for you. Jesus on the cross is really the only thing God ever needed to do to remind us of this. Yet He still sends other small reminders throughout our life.
A newborn baby, the laughter of your child, a kind word from your spouse or a friend, an unexpected letter or note, a financial gift, a sunset, a sunrise. You get the picture. When you receive these gifts from God let them be a reminder to thank God. To think of Him. To praise Him. To express your gratitude for His constant care and provision.
God created all things but he also sustains all things. “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17 ESV) He didn’t just wind up the world and let it go. He is still involved in the smallest intricacies of our world and life. This is one of the awe inspiring things of God. He is involved in the macro. But he also sees and is involved in the micro.
Jesus said, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6-7 ESV)
God cares for the smallest details of our world and your life. He will send small meaningful reminders your way. Soak them in. Be grateful and thank Him.

Amen!!!
