Group Leader Essentials
The life of a leader involves character, culture, and comptence.
Character
The character of a leader is all about who you are. Before “what you do”, “who you are” is the most important aspect of Christian leadership. Your devotion to Christ and your maturity as his disciple is foundational to any position of service and leadership within the church. “Our character is that internal, overall structure of the self that is revealed by our long-run patterns of behavior and from which our actions more or less automatically rise.” (Dallas Willard, Renovation of the Heart, p.142).

Culture
The culture of the leader has to do with your identification and alignment with the culture of the church. It means that you align with our mission, strategy, and values as a church. It means that you are pulling in the same direction as the church’s mission.
Here are the aspects of culture in relation to leadership.
Competence
Competencies are required for whatever work someone chooses to do. To become competent in ministry means that you pursue skill based training for the ministry in which you serve. We have prioritized some of most important competencies for a group leader. Seek to sharpen and improve your skill in each area.
